new year, same Jesus

It is February of 2018 – W O W – and resolutions still have a negative connotation most likely revolved around our tendency to be consistently inconsistent with keeping them, however one beautiful and constant thing we can always count on is Jesus, the King of Kings & Lord of Lords! He is sovereign overall. I love reading and re-reading Hebrews 13:8 which states “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” It reminds me that amongst the craziness that this life holds that the Lord, Jesus Christ, is a mighty, all-powerful, all-consuming God that gives new mercies to us everyday, and that nothing this world has to offer can compare to His Grace!

This year is what YOU make of it resolutions, or not. I have prayed heavily about the decision whether to have resolutions or not, and have decided to create some goals for improvement rather.

So today I have decided to share with y’all some of my personal and spiritual goals for this year, in an attempt & with hopes that by sharing them publically it will hold me more accountable!! Come 2019 ~yikes~ we will see how that works out!

  • Start & grow the BLOG! This one I am super excited about. I have always appreciated sharing ideas and inspirations with other people, and I pray that God uses this platform in a way to further glorify Him and His Kingdom, and I am excited to see where 2018 takes “Life with Lex!”
  • Graduate with honors! I have attended the University of North Texas for the past 3.5 years, and this May I will hopefully be graduating with honors! I am forever thankful for UNT and the friends, mentors, opportunities and growth it has given me over the years, and can’t wait to see and experience my last semester as an UNDERGRAD! Wowza. Time flies huh?!
  • Live healthily! Typical am I right? However this year I have a reason and a timeline looming over my head further inspiring me to hit the gym and eat better – mine and Ethan’s WEDDING!! We are getting married in October of this year, and a goal of mine is to tone up the bod so that I feel healthier and more beautiful walking/running down the aisle to my dude!!!
  • Become a prayer warrior! We, or at least I, often discount the power of prayer. Someone once pointed out to me that we are one prayer away from the Creator of the Universe, can we just take a minute – how stinking cool is that?!?!?! Like wow! The Creator of the Heavens and the Earth is within one prayers reach – talk about accessibility! I mean man!! But anyways I also heard another thing the other day on 101.7 a man called in and prompted the question – if all your prayers came true would your life be the only one that changes? This convicted THE MESS out of me! I never realized how truly selfish I was in my prayer life – so this year it is a goal of mine to become selfless and consistent in my prayer life, and to not discount the fact that prayer is a tremendous blessing from the Lord, and he longs for us to reach out to Him.
  • Be intentional – This goal ~triples~ as a personal, relational, and spiritual goal of mine! I have always been one to get stuck “going through the motions” per say, and this year it is a goal of mine to really put in an effort to take in every moment and see it for what it truly is, a blessing. It is so easy in this day and age to get caught up in social media, people pleasing, Netflix, and schedules, but this year I challenge all of us to put time and effort into the things we cherish most, the people in our lives. When it all comes down to it people aren’t going to remember you by the outfits you wore, or the makeup you had on, or the aesthetically pleasing instagram’s you posted about your vacation they are going to remember you based off of the impact you had on their life. So my goal this year is to recognize and show appreciation to the people in my life so that in return I can be better friend, daughter, sister, soon-to-be-wife, and Christ-follower.

Overall, I am looking forward to what 2018 holds! 2017 was full of many ups and many downs, and I am not the same person I was February 7, 2017 as I am today, however Jesus is the same Jesus now and forevermore, and I am eternally grateful!! Cheers to the New Years everyone!!
