The past few days have been a tad moist to say the least – not only are we experiencing frizzy hair, but also standing water up to our mid calves – Texas weather is CRAZY, but that’s a whole other blog posting to dig into!! Obviously rain, especially a consistent drizzle, is the farthest thing from an enticingly productive day, however I promise it is possible!! Here are some of my tips on how to make the most of those rainy days without netflix (I know right – its a scary thought)!
- Read “that” book! You know which one I’m referring to… the one on your nightstand with a bookmark three pages in that you started and never seemed to finish. I feel ya on a spiritual level I am the W O R S T when it comes to habitually reading and finally finishing a book.
I make excuses that I don’t have enough time or I read enough books in school, that I never take the time to read the books I want to read. So I’m tellin ya now that you’re trapped inside so read THAT book! And if you don’t have “that book” start Present over Perfect by Shauna Niequist or Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst – both amazing books by amazing authors about an amazing Lord and His love for us amazing girlie pops!! - Make a mood board! Get those creative juices flowin freely ladies (outside of the all – consuming, never – ending, semi – unrealistic pinterest boards.) Grab those magazines stuffed under your bed, a pair of scissors, grab a corkboard, and start pinning ladies – for real! You’ll feel creative, innovative, and way more productive then perusing on your phone!
- Bake! Baking is so fun and I wish I could do it more, but I’m sure I’d be a thousand pounds heavier because I love to lick the spoon heehee (-: But its okay to splurge every once in a while!! So grab all those sweets and get to baking!! Your house will smell good and your belly will thank you!! Crack out that apron while you’re at it and snap some cutesy pics for that insta!
- Play with makeup! Do y’all ever watch those YouTube vids and think man how do these chicks have enough time in the mornings? Because I definitely do – I am the “snoozer” it literally takes me 5 consecutive alarms to get me out of my comfy bed in the mornings – so when you’re trapped inside on a cold and rainy day crack out that makeup and experiment til your hearts desire. So by the time that 5th snooze comes along you can pop out of bed and conquer your makeup!!
- Practice your handwriting! I know this is a strange one, but in this day and age
people are using technology so much we never seem to write handwritten things anymore, but calligraphy is a beautiful and timeless font so grab a pen, some paper, print off some practice sheets, and teach yourself calligraphy – here is a hint darken your down strokes, this is best and easiest way to create some beautiful faux calligraphy!! - Learn some card games! Be a gatherer – pull some friends together and crack out some decks of cards, and take turns teaching each other your family’s card games! They’ll be lots of laughter and joy to go around – actual interaction is much better than living vicariously through the numerous amounts of unrealistic Netflix characters if ya know what I mean!
- Journal! One day we will look back and wish we could read the minds of our younger selves, but we can’t if we never put our thoughts on paper. I know life gets hectic and time is precious, but take the time – rather make the time to let your thoughts flow out through your pen. I promise 5, 10, 15 years from now you’ll thank me.
- Pamper yourself! Take the time to relax…. yes ~r e l a x~ I know, it’s a word used scarcely in our lives today, but I promise taking a 30 minute bath with hot tea in hand, and a face mask smeared across your problem areas, illuminated only by candle light will make you feel like a million bucks. Bonus points if you get out and lather up with lotion and paint those toesies with a pop of color!
Well, I hope my tips assist you in having a more productive rainy day because we all know we need one especially approaching the rainy spring months!! Let me know in the comments below what you do on your rainy days!
xoxo,
Lex
